Aussie Beef Burgers

Prep Time: 20    Cooking Time: 18    Serves: 6
  1. 750g minced beef
  2. 1 large brown onion, finely chopped or grated
  3. 3 tbsp Fountain Steak Sauce
  4. 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  5. 1 egg, lightly beaten
  6. 1/2 tsp cracked or ground black pepper
  7. 2 tbsp olive oil
  8. 6 hamburger buns, halved
  9. 6 large slices tinned beetroot
  10. 3 medium, ripe tomatoes, sliced thinly
  11. 6 Iceberg lettuce leaves, shredded
  12. Fountain Steak Sauce to serve
  13. Fountain Spicy Red Sauce to serve

  1. Place the beef mince, onion, Fountain Steak Sauce, breadcrumbs and egg in a large bowl. Season with pepper. Mix with your hands until evenly combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions. Shape each portion with your hands into a patty about 10cm in diameter.
  3. Place the patties onto a tray lined with greaseproof paper. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to rest.
  4. Brush a pre-heated barbecue plate or non-stick frying pan with a little of the olive oil and cook patties over medium-low heat for about 4 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked through. If necessary, cook in batches.
  5. Meanwhile, toast the hamburger buns on the cut side by either char-grilling briefly on the barbecue or toasting under the grill.
  6. To serve, top the bottom halves of the toasted hamburger buns with the patties and then lashings of Fountain Steak Sauce, to taste. Top with the sliced beetroot, tomato and shredded lettuce, then the remaining bun and serve.
  7. Hint: Customize your burger by adding a fried egg, crispy bacon, sliced pineapple and a slice or two of cheese.
